ā€œNot another drink dateā€ is a phrase we hear so commonly. I mean, I get it. Drinks are an easy plan and there are oh-so-many bars you could go to. Sure, there are cute bars that serve a menu of bespoke clever craft cocktails featuring artisanal ingredients whipped up by a mustached hipster named Tom Sandoval. While those bars are wonderful (don’t get me wrong!), most drink plans aren’t ::this cute::! They usually involve going to so-and-so bar again to drink yet another tequila soda. Let’s get a little more creative here.

I also know there is a non-alcoholic movement happening. While this may or may not be your thing, there’s one thing we can all agree upon–the usual drink date gets boring after awhile. Now more than ever is a great time to do literally anything else. SO, you know what you can do instead…literally anything else!

::Enter the non drink date era!::

I even compiled a list with some commentary so you don’t even have to Google it. You’re welcome.

Art
-check out a gallery/gallery night/open studios
-street art walking tour
-a specific exhibit at a museum (more approachable vs walking through a whole museum)
-do art/take a class (drawing, painting, [nude!] models…or recreate that scene from Ghost if you know what I mean)

Music
-see a show (figuring out a mutual favorite band is great! but also, discovering someone new and picking a show at random could be fun too! personally love Sofarsounds for this!)
-concert in a park (bring snacks!)
-jazz club
-karaoke (this is probably fun and really embarrassing but also really fun)

Food
-Snack Crawl (pick a favorite snack or cuisine, visit multiple places and split some snacks!)
-cook together/cooking class (see if they know their way around the kitchen)
-ice-cream (who hates that?…and if they do, RED FLAG!)
-coffee (yeah, I know…kinda boring, but honestly one of my favorite types of quick dates to get to know someone!)
-picnic in a park (*there’s a story here…)

Active
-walk a park (bring that coffee?)
-bike (with a destination in mind!)
-paddleboards
-climbing
-paddleboats (this sounds really cute, but I feel like you need bugspray)
-kayak
-geocache (is this still a thing?…if not, scavenger hunt!)
-mini golf or driving range (if the date sucks, at least you can hit some shit!)
-axe throwing (I hear people like this? Seems dangerous with a stranger??)
-workout/workout class (this personally sounds awful to me, but you do you!)
-go on a hike (but like tell your friends before you go into the woods, k?)
-bowling
-ice-skating (recreate an Olympic couple’s skate…Tessa & Scott, anyone?)
-salsa/ballroom dancing (nobody puts Baby in a corner!)
-pickleball (I know, I know, it’s kinda annoying but like seems like an A-OK sport for a date)

Tourist-y
-roadtrip (again, tell your friends if you do this with a stranger! safety first!)
-beach (see if they’re smart and bring SPF!)
-museum (are they a skimmer? do they take it all in?
-double decker tour (who doesn’t love a kitschy tour?)
-discover your city and go on a walk through different neighborhoods
-street fair
-pick a clichƩ thing and do it (for example: the Chicago Bean or Empire State Building)

Local
-comedy show (hope y’all get roasted for being on a date!)
-play/musical
-bookstore (reading is hot)
-fruit picking (make a pie later with it? jam? seems like a couple-y activity and cute?)
-sports! (I just hope both teams have fun)
-flea market
-farmer’s market (another cute coupley thing! get ingredients to cook together!)
-volunteer (this is person is probably the best human you could date, marry them.)

*Not-So-Ordinary
-go to the airport and pick a random spot to fly to
-casino (…like go to Vegas after?)
-grocery store (I personally love this)
-Costco (free samples!)
-house showing (yanno, pretend you’re a couple and gonna buy a home together)
-Ikea (same applies for the house interior^)
-hot air balloon
-skydive
*These are kinda chaotic

The cool thing about non-drink dates are they’re usually a lot of fun and very memorable. So here’s your sign to try something new with a date!

Song of the week:
